One of Malaysias top attractions is the Batu Caves which is located around 13km north of Kuala Lumpur. Carved into a cliff, the Batu complex contains a variety of Hindi temples with the main draw being the shrine of Murugan. Due to the 272 steps to the entrance, the shrine is not currently wheelchair accessible (as of 2026), however there are plans for an escalator to be installed in the future. As a result, one can only admire from the bottom for now (providing that they do not fear pigeons!)…
If a wheelchair user is to follow the path to the left, one will stumble across Ramayana Cave which is accessible to a point. However, one feels that this is enough to experience what the caves have to offer…

The exterior of the Batu Caves is mostly wheelchair accessible except when one exits the KTM station meaning that one has to do a diversion around the car park. One can therefore admire the outdoor structures (and monkeys)…
